August 3, 2022 - EA Sports FC to Sponsor La Liga

It's not exactly gameplay news, but EA has announced that EA Sports FC will be sponsoring the Spanish La Liga from the 2023-24 season.

"The partnership will officially start in the 2023/2024 season between EA Sports FC and LaLiga and will include title naming rights for all LaLiga competitions, plus a complete rebrand of LaLiga with EA Sports including all logos and many more details below."

July 13, 2022 - FIFA 23 Hype Builds

While we haven't heard anything more about EA Sports FC, and likely won't until next year, FIFA 23 hype is continuing to build.

The expectation is that the new game will be revealed sometime very soon, ahead of pre orders going live in August 2022.

As soon as you can actually buy the new game, we'll be sure to update you.

May 11, 2022 - FIFA's Statement

Alongside the official announcement, FIFA released its own to say that it plans to release its own game once the agreement with EA Sports comes to an end. It said:

"The FIFA name is the only global, original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25 and FIFA 26, and so on - the constant is the FIFA name and it will remain forever and remain THE BEST.

What shape FIFA's own game will take, who will develop it, or how similar it'll be to EA Sports' game, no one really knows, but it'll be interesting to see how much competition it poses to EA Sports FC.

What Is EA Sports FC?

It has been rumoured for a while, but EA Sports FC will be EA's new football game series, replacing FIFA from 2023 onwards.

The game publisher has ended its partnership with FIFA, therefore ending the use of the governing body's name in the series. We expect it to be pretty similar to the FIFA formula we know and love already, but the iconic FIFA name won't be there.

EA Sports FC Release Date

As for when we can actually expect to play EA Sports FC, we've got a while to wait yet.

This year's game is still due to be FIFA 23, as we're all prepared for. Therefore, EA Sports FC should release around October 2023, replacing what would have been FIFA 24.

In the initial announcement, EA has said that we'll hear more about the game in July 2023, when the FIFA 24 announcement would otherwise have come.

EA Sports FC Platforms

The other thing that is still up in the air is what platforms EA Sports FC will come to.

While the install bases of last-gen consoles is still massive, EA may see the release of EA Sports FC as a new era, allowing it to focus on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC only.

I'm sure we'll hear more about that when the full reveal comes in July 2023. For now, you'll simply have to get the lowdown on FIFA 23, which will launch later this year. And as we prepare to say goodbye to the FIFA we've known for decaces, we've decided upon the best FIFA songs of all time. See if you agree.
