New Diablo 4 Game Director Announced In A Quarterly Update


After the previous Diablo 4 Game Director was let go from the company alongside others amidst the ongoing State of California Lawsuit during August, and the game has been without a Game Director since then.

Today in the Diablo 4 quarterly update, Blizzard announced long-time Diablo developer Joe Shely as the new Game Director.

"I’m honored to continue the vision of Diablo IV as its new Game Director, and I’m humbled to represent the team pouring their hearts into this game." Shely says.

Shely touches on the ongoing lawsuit and says the team is hard at work implementing changes to the values Blizzard employees and fans deserve.

New Diablo 4 Game Director Announced In A Quarterly Update

Shely says that much has changed during development, and the team is committed to creating an authentic Diablo experience.

The quarterly update looks at sound in the game, and what goes into creating an ambiance that makes players immersed in the world so much more.

While a sound update may not be what players wanted, Shely says that the next update will take a look at the current state of end-game systems.

With no Blizzcon planned for 2021, an online Blizzcon will take place early in 2022, where players can expect to hear more about their favorite Blizzard games including much more information on where Diablo 4 is in development, and potentially even a release date.
