Destiny 2 is reaching the culmination of what Bungie calls the Light and Darkness Saga with The Final Shape, the expansion scheduled to release in 2024.

Naturally, only a few details are known about the Final Shape, especially considering we're still early on in Year 6's existence; that started with Lightfall and is continuing with Season of the Deep and all the changes it brought to Destiny 2, including new exotic weapons to chase.

Still, Bungie surprised fans at the May 24th PlayStation Showcase with not only a look at the revival of Marathon, their iconic franchise that preceded even Halo's creation, but also a shocking teaser of The Final Shape, which included the return of beloved character Cayde-6.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape - Release date

We don't have an exact timeframe for when The Final Shape is expected to release. We know that barring massive delays that disrupt Bungie's entire development cycle, it's coming in 2024.

Whether that's early in the year or during the final months remains to be seen, the last time an expansion was delayed happened when The Witch Queen was pushed from a late 2021 release to February 2022.

Destiny 2 fans were naturally upset since Bungie had to create a six-month-long season that felt like a chore to play. However, we did get the 30th Anniversary bundle which brought some life into the looter-shooter.
