Dead By Daylight Cross-Progression Explained For PC, Console & Nintendo Switch Players

If you've come to this page you're no doubt wondering, does Dead by Daylight support cross-progression?

Well, the answer is fairly complicated, but bluntly, the developer Behaviour Interactive does support cross-progression, just not with every platform at the time of writing.

For those of you who don't know, here's a really quick explanation of what cross-progression actually means:

Cross-Progression allows you to synchronize your game progression and your inventory (DLCs, purchases, skins) on several platforms.

So it's a handy feature to ensure that all your game progress and purchased content is available to you, regardless of what platform you're playing on.

Now we know what it is, lets break down how it works, how you set it up and what platforms it currently works for.

Does Dead By Daylight Support Cross-Progression On PlayStation (PS4/PS5) and Xbox?

At the time of writing, there are no cross-progression features for PlayStation (PS4/PS5) or Xbox consoles.

So that also means it doesn't work with PC, Nintendo Switch or Google Stadia.

If you've been playing on console and have purchased content on console, that's the only place you can access it.

In August 2020, Behaviour Interactive did bring PC and console players together with the addition of Cross-Play, but there's been no word on when cross-progression could arrive.

The only official word from Behaviour Interactive on the state of cross-progression for console - made in July 2020 - is this:

“As of today, we cannot make Cross-Progression available on other platforms and we have no guarantee that it will happen. However, we know that this is a community wish, and we will keep trying to make it happen”

A Tweet from the official Twitter account in 2021, also referred to other platforms as "still up in the air."

Does Dead By Daylight Support Cross-Progression On Nintendo Switch?

Again, another tricky one to answer because cross-progression for Nintendo Switch was meant to be live as of September 2020.

Dataminers did notice that internal code referenced Nintendo Switch cross-progression back in January 2021. Then in May 2021, the official Twitter account told a fan that cross-progression is coming to the Switch "in the near future".

But even at the time of writing, we've still no official word on exactly when it could arrive.

What Platforms Support Dead By Daylight Cross-Progression?

At the time of writing Cross-Progression for Dead By Daylight is available for players on Steam and Google Stadia platforms. But as we mention, the team are always exploring the possibility of adding more platforms, however, sometimes it's not always the developer's decision.

How To Set Up Dead By Daylight Cross-Progression?

If you want to enable Dead By Daylight cross-progression, it couldn't be any simpler.

Essentially all you need to do is link a Behavior account to your Steam or Google Stadia account. For those wondering you cannot link more than one account from the same platform? (i.e. you can't link 2 Steam accounts).

But that's it, it's a quick job and if you run into any problems linking your accounts, it's likely because the account information you have entered is incorrect or because the platform’s website is down.

Behaviour suggests you contact the support accounts from the platform you are trying to link, or check out the Dead By Daylight forums for more info if you still have questions.

Yes, although there are repercussions, as explained by Behaviour Interactive, just below:

If you unlink an account after it has been merged, all progress and purchases will be set to the state it was before the merge, potentially causing a loss of progress / virtual goods on that platform. When you unlink your platform account from your Behaviour Account, you'll have to wait 60 days to link a new platform account (of the same platform) to your Behaviour Account. You will also have to wait 60 days to link that platform account to another Behaviour Account.

In addition, the developer also outlined what progress you keep and what you lose if you unlink an account:

When you unlink your platform account from your Behaviour account, your unlocked items, perks, characters, character levels, and player level will be returned to the platform account in the same state as when the account was originally linked. Any remaining auric cells purchased on that platform since linking, or items purchased using auric cells, will also be returned to the platform account. Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards, and Auric Cells unlocked through gameplay will remain on the Behaviour account. Any unlocked characters that were transferred to the unlinked platform account will be unavailable to the Behaviour account (unless repurchased). If unlinking the account would leave the Behaviour account with NO remaining platform accounts, then all Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards, and Auric Cells remaining on the Behaviour account will be granted to the final platform account that was unlinked.
