Cyberpunk originally planned to have a multiplayer mode, but it seemed impossible to make this a reality as development progressed. The passing of 2021 has shown us more and more evidence that Cyberpunk 2077 will feature multiplayer. Adam Kicinski, the president and joint-CEO of CD Projekt Red, explained the future of multiplayer mode in March, which seems to be happening now.
CD Projekt Red's Adam Kicinski discussed adding online play to all of their games. A CD Projekt Red job listing is seeking a multiplayer-experienced game developer. We may finally be seeing some online capabilities in Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode
To quote Adam Kicinski in March:
"Previously, we hinted that our next AAA would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we have decided to reconsider this now. Given our new more systemic and agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day."
"What is changing is our long-term approach to online. And by this, we mean ensuring we are properly prepared to implement online elements in our games where they make sense. We don't want to go overboard or lose our single-player DNA. We want to take thoughtful steps to build robust online capabilities."

Adam will ensure that CD Projekt Red adds multiplayer components to Cyberpunk 2077. Based on the job description, the candidate must have "Experience with narrative, multiplayer, and/or shooters." This indicates that CD Projekt Red is hiring with multiplayer in mind and what other game from CD Projekt Red is a narrative shooter? This job listing is definitely for Cyberpunk 2077.
This is just a guess, but it's not hard to see that multiplayer is being worked on for Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red should give fans a timeline on when Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer capabilities. Until then, we will keep you updated.
