Sony has patented a system that would enable PlayStation 5 users to leave in-game messages, including audio and images, to help other players.

Noted by Scrubwiki, the system revolves around the use of "in-game tags".

“Such tags introduce an additional dimension of community participation to both single and multiplayer games,” the patent explains.

“Through such tags, players are empowered to communicate through filtered text messages and images as well as audio clips that other game players, including top rated players, have generated and placed at particular coordinates and/or in context of particular events within the game space.”

Attached to the patent is an image, interestingly highlighting Killzone – a franchise that had its website retired just a few days ago.

It's definitely got a hint of Demon's Souls about it, that's for sure. FromSoftware's Souls titles have long encouraged players to leave messages to help (or hinder) each other.

What's interesting is that the patent notes the potential for players who are stuck to search exterior sources (like this very website) for assistance.

“In order for a game player to obtain a complete `walk thru` of a particular interactive game, the user may have to visit multiple websites on the Internet,” it notes.

“Since these websites tend to be `unofficial,` there is often an issue with the veracity or accuracy of the information displayed on these websites.”

Sony has already introduced a sort of tips system through the PS5's system-wide Activities options.

This allows players to find collectables, uncover boss strategies, or get general tips by watching small gameplay tutorials. It sounds as though this new patent suggests a crowdsourced alternative, and it'll be interesting to see if it ever comes to fruition.
