How Do Free Upgrades Work?

PS4 to PS5 free upgrades work depending on what the publisher decides.

For example, if you were to get a digital version of Borderlands 3 on PS4 then got a digital edition PS5 you'd be able to upgrade for free.

If you got Borderlands 3 on a disc on PS4 and got a standard PS5, you would use the PS4 disc for the PS5.

Whereas if you bought a physical version of Borderlands 3 then got a digital-only PS5, it wouldn't work.
