December 19, 2022: With Season One Reloaded in full swing, SBMM is ever-present within MW2 multiplayer.

The topic of Modern Warfare 2 skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) is often discussed within the Call of Duty community, with many wanting it to be toned down or removed altogether to create a more casual experience for players of all skill levels. SBMM has featured in Black Ops Cold War and will feature in Call of Duty Vanguard, splitting the opinions of the community once again.

The controversial topic often causes plenty of debate within the community. While many enjoy their competitive matches against closely matched teams, others prefer a more casual experience in Infinity Ward's latest dose of multiplayer.

Will Modern Warfare 2 have SBMM?

Notable leaker @RalphsValve revealed MW2 would contain SBMM in the months leading up to the release of the game

Players that want to get rid of SBMM in Call of Duty better look away now, as Modern Warfare 2 will use the matchmaking feature in its multiplayer.

The leaker also predicted the appearance of AI which features in the large-scale Invasion game mode in addition to Warzone 2 and DMZ

What is MW2 SBMM?

SBMM allows players to drop into matches against others of a similar skill level. For those that love a battle against closely-matched opposition, the feature is great but for those that just want to jump into the action for a bit of fun, the last thing you want to hear is that the game will contain SBMM.

Many believe the standard multiplayer matches shouldn't contain SBMM so matches contain a diverse range of skill levels and the feature should only feature in Ranked play to guarantee competitive matches.

Either way, there's a high chance plenty of SBMM debates will take place within the community.
