Following the examples of Activision and EA, Ubisoft is the latest video-game publisher to make cross-platform functionality a major focus.
The company has just announced Ubisoft Connect, a new ecosystem that will support both cross-play and cross-progression for most major Ubi titles. It’ll replace the publisher’s decade-old Uplay and Ubisoft Club services. Ubisoft Connect goes live on October 29, alongside the upcoming open-world action game Watch Dogs: Legion.
Ubisoft Connect Adds Cross-Save and Cross-Progression To New Games
As reported by Kotaku, not all of the publisher’s online titles will make the full transition to the new Connect ecosystem. Therefore, all Ubisoft Club rewards will be unlocked for those games — including Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Far Cry 5, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, both recent South Park titles, The Crew 2, and The Division.
“For our newest releases, all your game progression is saved within Ubisoft Connect, so you won’t lose a step if you change consoles or switch to PC,” the publisher’s official website explains.
“Cross-play is a feature that allows you to connect online and play with your friends regardless of what platform is used. Most Ubisoft games with a multiplayer functionality aim to support this feature.”
The Connect app will be available on Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
