Resident Evil Requiem is a month away from its release, and fans are already worried about Leon Kennedy. In the latest trailer, they pieced together that the former R.P.D. turned D.S.O agent is afflicted by a mysterious virus.
Eagle-eyed fans used their skills to check every bit of detail revealed from the recent Resident Evil Showcase that showed 12-minutes of Requiem footage. They discovered one scene where Leon drives his Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, exposing his right side of the face, and found an odd black trail on his neck. Fans believe that this may be a sign of infection, and Leon’s days might be numbered.

Leon Kennedy has always been a fan favorite among the RE community. If not Jill, Chris, or Claire, Leon was mostly everyone’s cup of tea. His cheeky one-liners and nonchalant attitude have earned him a loyal fanbase since his R.P.D. days. Leon has survived through countless horrors across multiple RE titles. From the deadly T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City to the global threat of the C-Virus, he defines the RE franchise. In short, he is the series’ most popular, and it would suck to see his character shuffle off his mortal coil when Requiem arrives.
That possibility seems to be getting more real by the day as Leon’s condition might worsen in Requiem. Of course, this isn’t really the first time he’s been infected. In fact, Leon was once a victim of the Plaga virus in Resident Evil 4: Remake, but was fortunately saved by his estranged beau, Ada Wong.
Leon being infected in Requiem is probably meant to throw off fans from the overall story of the game, which is supposedly the “end of all Umbrella.” Who knows, maybe Ada Wong returns to save Leon?

There is also the strange connection with Leon and Requiem’s other protagonist, Grace Ashcroft. The enigma of how he fits into Grace’s story is still a complete mystery. According to the trailer, a mysterious project called “Elpis” is the connecting thread between these two characters. No one knows what Elpis is all about. Some even believe that it's Leon Kennedy himself, while others believe it's the biggest reason for the Raccoon City cover-up.
We could only speculate from here on out, but maybe Leon is also searching for Elpis to cure him from the spreading infection. Fan theories are also circulating that Leon may already be in the late stage of infection, but he retains his memories, just like Requiem's new virus strain does in Requiem.
The fate of Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem looks pretty grim. But this man has all the odds stacked against him in previous entries, so there’s a chance he might make it to live another day. However, this man has completely broken himself mentally and physically after everything that has happened in the franchise. Maybe it’s time we give the old man the rest he needs?
