With all the talk about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and the developers mentioning that the game's “not ever yet,” it’s hard not to speculate about what might be in store in the months ahead, especially considering how much the game would benefit from a DLC expansion to address its unanswered questions.
If Sandfall Interactive decides to release a DLC for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, here are the things I’d love to see:
Note that there are major story spoilers in this piece. If you haven’t finished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 yet, now is a good time to stop reading.
Clea and the Writer’s Guild

One of the biggest mysteries in the game lies in Clair Obscur’s side characters, most notably Clea, the estranged older sister of Alicia and Verso. Clea is part of the Writer’s Guild, a local group of revolutionaries trying to shake up Paris. They stand as rivals to the Artists, represented in Clair Obscur by Alina and Renoir.
Clea is arguably the most misunderstood character in the game. The main cast often frames her as an antagonistic force, pulling pranks on the painted world and adding some of the toughest enemies in the game. Yet, in context, she comes across as one of the more sensible figures, since she is not bound to the Painted World of Lumiere and instead exists in the real world, engaging in real-world struggles.
A DLC centered on Clea and her time with the Writers would be fascinating, though I could see it working better as a full sequel entry. There is so much lore and history to uncover with the Writers, and we still don’t know how combat would function outside of the Painted World.
Creation of the World

Another strong idea for DLC would be to explore the origins of their world, long before the grim events of Clair Obscur and years before Alina and Renoir’s fractured relationship.
This would give Sandfall Interactive the perfect opportunity to reimagine the map and roll back time, changing the architecture, overworld, and even the role of the Axons. Yes, it would be a lot of work to create an entirely new map of Lumiere, but seeing the Painted World in its prime, as well as meeting the Gestrals before the rise of the Gommage and the “Paintress,” would be worth it.
We might even get a glimpse of Esquie and Francois before their friendship collapsed.
Verso and Alicia

Perhaps the most powerful DLC Sandfall Interactive could create would focus on Verso and Alicia. Not their “Painted Versions,” but their original selves, before their tragic fate.
This could give players a deeper look into the relationship between brother and sister and make the game’s ending resonate even more. Verso and Alicia are both complex, layered characters, and showing us the infamous “burning house” moment in full would only add to their impact.
That about sums it up. While Sandfall Interactive has far more possibilities to explore within the surreal Clair Obscur universe, these are my personal picks for where a DLC could go if one were to arrive in the next year or two.
