Hollow Knight: Silksong’s upcoming DLC, Sea of Sorrow, is still a complete mystery. No one knows what to expect from this expansion to one of 2025’s best games, but I may have a few ideas.
Here are five things I wish to see in Team Cherry’s upcoming DLC for Hollow Knight: Silksong:
A New Region to Explore in Sea of Sorrow

It should be obvious that the Sea of Sorrow DLC will include a new playable area to explore. Team Cherry is no stranger to adding a huge chunk of content in its DLCs, especially considering that the original game received three major updates that expanded Hallownest, down to its abyssal and heavenly corners.
A new explorable region is well within Team Cherry’s realm of possibility. Even prior to Silksong’s launch, eagle-eyed fans had already spotted cut content in older trailers and promotional materials. Many suspect that these once-removed areas could return in some shape or form.
A Pantheon-Style Boss Rush Mode

The biggest challenge every Hollow Knight player must conquer. The Pantheon makes FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series a cakewalk. It made grown men scream in frustration after numerous attempts to clear it. It’s essentially Hollow Knight’s unique version of a boss rush mode, revamped in the form of a grand colosseum of champions.
It wouldn’t be a Hollow Knight DLC without one, and players have always asked to replay some of the game’s best-designed boss encounters without having to replay the game. Bringing a Pantheon mode, one way or another, will push more players to take on Pharloom’s best and brightest.
Swimming as a New Gameplay Mechanic

You might think swimming doesn’t belong in a game like Silksong, but at some point, Team Cherry did add swimming to the original Hollow Knight, but it was never implemented for reasons unknown.
Considering the DLC is aptly named “Sea of Sorrow,” it’s highly possible we might see Hornet swimming literal bodies of water. With Hollow Knight: Silksong’s intense platforming challenges, we can also expect that swimming could be a traversal option in the upcoming update.
Deeper Lifeblood and Plasmium Lore

One of the biggest mysteries in Hollow Knight lore (apart from the Abyss) is the familiar blue goo we keep seeing in both entries. Called “Lifeblood” or “Plasmium,” this alien-like substance doesn’t have a place of origin, and its history is muddled with esotericism.
In the original Hollow Knight, we mostly use this iconic blue goo to increase our max health temporarily. We could even acquire a Charm that can turn our entire health into Lifeblood, albeit removing our ability to heal.
Silksong dabbled in the origins of Lifeblood as well, especially with the alchemist Zylotol found in the western areas of Pharloom.
Sea of Sorrow’s teaser used blue as its primary color; while it may not directly refer to the Lifeblood, there might be a connection if we look hard enough.

A Fishing Minigame for Sea of Sorrow

It may sound like a trivial thing to ask from Team Cherry, but adding a fishing minigame is of utmost importance. They can’t just call the DLC “Sea of Sorrow” without Hornet swinging her rod, looking for tasty aquatic treats. She has a Needle and a String as a weapon, for goodness sake. It would make perfect sense!
Supergiant’s Hades and Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 both have one, and they’re now two of the biggest games ever made. I’m not saying it’s a foolproof way of getting more accolades, but maybe a fishing minigame could work?
While there are more things I want to see in Hollow Knight: Silksong’s “Sea of Sorrow” DLC, these five are personal wishlists that we’d love to see. Here’s hoping it won’t disappoint!
