The Hollow Knight subreddit is already working on theories and speculations about Silksong’s DLC now that the game has officially reached its first month. While there are still plenty of players working their way through Pharloom’s treacherous pathways, those who rolled the Act 3 credits are already looking for clues about the game’s extended content.
Reddit user u/Baik____ created a lengthy post talking about the game’s cut content, theorizing that it could still make its way to a potential DLC in the next few years. The Reddit user has cleverly mapped out what the new areas could look like by parsing all the cut content that was compiled from the Hollow Knight wiki.
According to the user, 5 major locations were scrapped before Hollow Knight: Silksong launched on September 4. They never made it into the full game, but there are signs that some of the pathways across Pharloom lead to these locations. Areas like the Pharloom Bay, The Gloom, and the long theorized City of Steel are a few of those locations that have been cut.

Pharloom Bay was supposed to be part of the base game, as it serves as the bridge between the game’s second major location, which is the City of Steel. Eagle-eyed Silksong fans mapped out the entire area as early as its first reveal a few years ago. Pharloom Bay is supposed to be located after Bilewater, and it would lead players to a whole new area rife with content.
One of the biggest surprises from the Reddit user’s observation is that the cut content would roughly add more hours to its already lengthy 50-60 hour playtime. The City of Steel feels like it shares the same size as the original Hollow Knight’s Hallownest, but more compact.
Apart from the new areas, there are also a lot of cut enemy types in the game. City of Steel’s Steel enemies have been mentioned as they are found in the game files, which include a Steel Assassin Boss called ‘Sharpe.’ Unfortunately, they also never made it past the full game.

While this all sounds great and all, it’s also worth noting that some version of the game’s rumored next area is already present in the base game. For example, the Red Coral Gorge, which was supposed to be an area in the City of Steel, is already part of the game’s Coral Tower area in Act 3. Another map that was found in an early Silksong concept art called Aspid (or Cloverland) has been scrapped as well, but it was retrofitted to the Verdania area in the base game, which houses some of the most emotional moments.
The Reddit user who speculated all this even called the City of Steel an “Intermission” rather than a true act. Other users in the thread also mentioned that Team Cherry could be moving the City of Steel map to a third game.
Team Cherry has already confirmed that they’re working on the DLC in the Bloomberg interview by Jason Schreier, but didn’t disclose any more details. Obviously, these are all speculations as of now, but the fact that there’s a whole other area intended to be part of Silksong’s base game proves that Team Cherry still has plenty of content to work on.
