Hollow Knight: Silksong has been out for almost two weeks now, and while many players are still working their way toward Act 3, others have already finished the game and seen the credits roll. Some are even speculating about what to expect from future DLC or the possibility of Hollow Knight 3 with a new protagonist.

Now that the dust has started to settle, here are five of the best boss fights in Silksong:

Lace (Battle 2)

Round 2 with Lace.

Without a doubt, Lace is one of the most interesting presences in Hollow Knight: Silksong. She’s a fierce fighter who mirrors Hornet’s playstyle. Nimble and agile, she can catch unsuspecting players with her swift attacks and frustrating parries.

What makes the fight even more memorable is her boss theme, arguably the best in the game. For those of us who had been waiting to hear it in-game ever since composer Christopher Larkin first shared it seven years ago, finally experiencing it here was a truly satisfying moment.

Cogwork Dancers

Prepare for a heartbreaking sight.

The Cogwork Dancers aren’t particularly difficult, but their fight is fun and rewards patience. It feels almost like a dance battle as the three of you zip around the arena, trading blows in a graceful, chaotic rhythm.

The real surprise comes after you defeat the second dancer. Watching the lone survivor perform their routine is unexpectedly heartbreaking. It’s a brilliant little touch from Team Cherry, made even better by its excellent boss theme, which transitions seamlessly into one of the best tracks in the game once you step into the Cogwork Core.

The First Sinner

The First Sinner is one of the toughest bosses in the game. She’s a malevolent presence trapped at the bottom of The Slab, Pharloom’s version of a prison. After collecting enough keys, including the Apostate, you can reach a hidden chamber in the southern Slab where a strange statue reveals itself as The First Sinner. Just when you think you’re about to bind a new ability, you’re suddenly thrown into a fight for your life.

Her battle is intense but balanced. She conjures a barrage of needles and fills the arena with exploding runes, yet nothing ever feels unfair. It’s a demanding test of skill that quickly becomes unforgettable.

The Phantom

Coolest boss fight in the game.

The Phantom lurks in the farthest reaches of The Mist. Once you figure out how to navigate the level with your Needolin by following the spirits, you descend into Pharloom’s shadowy depths, where a massive Organ looms. That’s where you find The Phantom.

This foe shares the skillset of Hornet and Lace, creating a humanoid battle that feels reminiscent of a classic Souls encounter. The battle with The Phantom is one of Silksong’s most hype-inducing moments, and the reward for victory is worth it: your very own parry ability.

Nyleth

Of the three Dream bosses in Act 3, Nyleth stands out as my favorite. A living plant entity, she floods the battlefield with exploding muck, turning it into a deadly “floor is lava” challenge. This fight puts your reflexes and platforming skills to the test as you cling to walls and rely on pogo attacks to survive.

The battle isn’t overwhelmingly difficult, but it demands constant attention. One misstep and you’ll drop into the spiky floor below, taking double Mask damage. It’s punishing, but thrilling.

And that’s about it. While there are plenty of other incredible fights (including the final boss and true final boss), these five are my personal picks for the best bosses in Hollow Knight: Silksong. You can check out our five WORST bosses piece here.
