What Do You Mean Bubsy 4D Looks Like a Good Game?

No one ever thought they would get excited for a new Bubsy game, but Bubsy 4D found a way to gain plenty of interest. This series of platformers was never considered good, but thanks to the rise of meme culture, it was able to build a cult following. While some of the recent Bubsy games range from okay to terrible, 4D looks like it's actually quality. Not Donkey Kong Bananza, but still solid.

How did we get a good Bubsy game? Well, all they had to do was get a good developer.

Okay, that’s a bit harsh, because developers don’t go out of their way to make bad games. Bad games usually come with good intentions and are ruined by inexperience, poor direction, or corporate greed. Even with all of these excuses, we can’t believe that Bubsy 4D actually looks like a good game, not just an “okay” one.

True Demons

Rather than get any other developer, Bubsy 4D is being worked on by Fabraz, who has made one of the most fun 3D platformers in recent memory: Demon Turf. This is one of those games where using your Mario-like platformer skills can literally get you anywhere, making it a really fun time for speedrunners. If you like breaking game boundaries, you’ll love Demon Turf.

Seeing those same mechanics used in this new Bubsy game makes it look like the best one in the franchise so far, which isn’t saying a lot. You won’t see a lot of people defend the old games, even players who are fans of the series, as they’re barely competent and can barely give fans any form of fun. Calling this game the best in this series is a low bar because there are barely any good ones.

Trouble for Mario?

Before fans start saying this game looks better than Super Mario Odyssey or Donkey Kong Bananza, let’s be real; you all know that isn’t true. This is a good-looking 3D platformer and could even surpass those games in certain parts, but not overall. If anything, Bubsy would be lucky to have a 7/10 game.

Still, if Bubsy 4D can immediately get Super Mario Odyssey comparisons, that’s already a good trend for this franchise. We’re just happy that this game has good visuals and solid platforming. There’s a lot to like about this game, and we think it could actually bring this poorly-received series some goodwill.

Plus, would anyone hate having another quality 3D platformer in today’s day and age? It might not feature everyone’s favorite platforming mascot, but it could make other publishers take notice.
