- Quick Answer: Until Dawn 2 is an upcoming interactive survival horror game developed by Firesprite, tracking a team of ghost hunters stranded on a dangerous tropical island.
During Sony's State of Play, everyone was treated to a surprise when one of the games announced turned out to be Until Dawn 2. After over a decade, we are getting an unexpected sequel, and it looks to be more promising than the first.
Much like its predecessor, Until Dawn 2 will force you to be in charge of a group of people who have to deal with the supernatural, and it's up to you to make their decisions that could either save some, all, or none of them. The biggest and most obvious difference between the games is that while the first had your survivors in a snowy region, the sequel has everyone trying to stay alive on a remote tropical island.
Don't let the brighter and more beautiful setting fool you, as it looks as though the game still promises to induce the horror and anxiety-driven scenarios you expect. In fact, I think being set on an island allows Until Dawn 2 to have far more interesting decision-making situations than the first game.
One reason I believe that to be the case is due to the wildlife. In the first game, there wasn't much to work with, considering the snowy setting. You had a few animals like the elk, birds, a squirrel, and even a wolf that threatened your survival, but there wasn't that much. However, that will likely be the exact opposite in the sequel.
Since the sequel will be played throughout the jungle and lagoon of the remote tropical island, you'll have to deal with everything that lives in it. That means dangerous animals such as snakes, spiders, jaguars, and many more. If not those, then it would be the threats that live in bodies of water, such as sharks, jellyfish, crocodiles, etc.

But let's say you considered the animal danger that comes with the setting, it's possible that they might not get you, but the fauna will. On a remote island, there's no telling what kind of plants thrive there. Some may be helpful, but others might be extremely lethal, and it's likely you can't tell what's what. That being the case, your odds of survival decrease even further, especially since there's likely going to be a ton of situations that involve the wildlife of the sequel, making things more unpredictable and exciting.
Another reason I believe Until Dawn 2's setting has the potential to have far more interesting decision-making scenarios is the different conditions it can inflict on the characters. On a remote tropical island, there are a variety of ways that can lead to a life-threatening experience. If that's not scary enough, then you also have to know that a number of them can happen at any moment and will be totally out of your control.
Like the previously mentioned wildlife, a random venomous creature could sneak up on any of your characters and will likely kill them if you don't make the right decisions to deal with it. If not that, then perhaps the weather could suddenly turn from sunny to stormy without warning, which could lead to illnesses that you weren't prepared for or cause unfavorable situations that can physically harm the potential survivors.
There are so many ways that could go wrong for your characters on a remote tropical island that wading through the potential danger will seem close to impossible. This means you'll need to consider all possible scenarios more than ever before, and while that seems draining, it can be more entertaining than you could imagine.

The final reason why the remote island setting contributes to more interesting decision-making situations is the means by which the characters can escape from it. If you're stuck in such a place with a dangerous killer and supernatural forces, there are a lot of things that you can do to make a getaway.
You have options such as creating signals or using whatever you can find to attract the attention of anyone outside the island for help, stopping the malicious forces yourself to ensure everyone's safety, or taking action and trying to leave the island yourself and whoever else you helped survive. All of these are viable, but also carry different degrees of danger that could end up being lethal if things go wrong.
Since there's no telling which has the highest success rate, making the right choice will be much more difficult. Perhaps there's more than one correct option, or maybe not, and this level of uncertainty raises the stakes of every decision you make, and that's a good thing when it comes to a game where everyone's life is in your hands.
Due to the remote island setting, Until Dawn 2 has the potential to be one of the best survival horror games to come out, as there are so many ways it can influence what dangers you have to get your characters out of. Hopefully, the team at Firespite considers all possible scenarios that can come from the environment in which the game takes place, as they have so much to work with to create one of the best experiences possible.
