The Rumored Tomb Raider: Legend Collection Would be Amazing for Game Preservation

Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld

Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld

The recent Tomb Raider collections have been fantastic, not only collecting some of Lara’s earlier games, but also keeping some of her worst titles. We never expected to see Angel of Darkness get a remaster, but that’s what the recent IV-VI Remastered collection did. Some rumors are now suggesting the Legend trilogy is next, which would be incredible.

Fans of Lara Croft really enjoyed the “Legend” trilogy of games, as they were able to add some QOL improvements to the classic Tomb Raider formula. Comprising Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld, this trilogy of games is praised by many, with some even preferring them over the Survivor trilogy. If rumors of this trilogy getting remastered are true, fans of the character will be in heaven.

A Trio of Legends

Released between the sixth and seventh generations of gaming, the Tomb Raider: Legend trilogy was able to have all of its games on then-older and current systems. For the most part, playing Legend and Anniversary on PS2 wasn’t that different from the Xbox 360 ports, aside from the prettier visuals. It’s when Underworld gets introduced that the changes become massive, as this third game really used the power of the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld all play very similarly, though the last game does have a big emphasis on swimming. A lot of that has to do with the game’s swimming mechanics and improved visuals, though some would argue it was an excuse to get Lara in even skimpier clothing. Still, this is a solid trilogy of games, and will make for a great bingeing session.

It’s also worth noting that Lara is more likable in these games. The Survivor titles are pretty great gameplay-wise, but they also make Lara a bit on the plain side personality-wise. If the rumored reboot needs to fix anything, they just need to give Lara her confidence back.

No Longer “Stuck” on PC

The rumors regarding this Tomb Raider: Legend trilogy seem legitimate, especially since the main X account has been posting about those games. Even if it seems pretty obvious, we’re glad the collection could be true, as that means they will be available on other systems that are not a computer.

Now that we have the I-VI divided into two games, adding the Legend trilogy almost completes these classic titles. Sure, we don’t have those odd games from the Game Boy or Game Boy Advance, but those can get their own collection or be on the Switch’s NSO service. Being able to have nine of these Tomb Raider games on your current-gen system will be fantastic.

Hopefully, there are also plans to bring the Tomb Raider: Survivor trilogy to Switch 2, as Nintendo is lacking in these classic Lara Croft titles. Afterwards, we can finally get that rumored new Tomb Raider game, which will presumably have Survivor gameplay and Lara’s Legend personality.
