If you've been keeping tabs on the Subnautica 2 situation, you'll know the pre-launch period was anything but smooth. However, things have finally settled, and players will be able to embark on an underwater exploration-focused adventure in no time.
Here's everything to know about Subnautica 2's early access launch and features.
When Is Subnautica 2 Releasing into Early Access?
Subnautica 2's early access is slated for a May 14 release. It will likely remain in early access for two to three years before it officially launches.

This announcement comes after a long, drawn-out legal dispute between Unknown Worlds, the developer of Subnatuica, and its publisher Krafton. The game was originally announced in 2024, but in the summer of 2025, Subnautica 2's early access was delayed after Krafton terminated key Unknown Worlds executives.

A legal battle ensued until March of this year. The rulings dictated that Krafton would have to rehire CEO Ted Gill. With Gill back on board, Subnatuica 2 was finally able to announce the game's early access.
Subnautica 2 will be an underwater exploration-focused survival sim, set on a new planet inhabited by tiny fish and towering Leviathans. Unlike the first Subnautica, this game features co-op and can be played with up to four players.
Early access will be available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
