Street Fighter x McDonald's: Capcom Cooks Up a Bizarre, Retro-Themed Collaboration in Japan

Saying that Street Fighter is a big deal again in Japan is an understatement. SF6's popularity now rivals the peak of Street Fighter II's back in the first golden age of fighting games, and there's no better proof than the most recent collaboration Capcom has cooked up: Street Fighter x McDonald's.

The promotional campaign is targeted at Japanese audiences and involves three different McDonald's items being named after Street Fighter characters. More importantly, retro-inspired promotional videos are making the rounds on social media, and they are as bizarre and fun as you might imagine.

Featuring a revamped version of Chun-Li's SFII stage with a McDonald's in the background, characters like Ryu, Akuma, Guile, Chun-Li, Ken, and Bison duke it out to see who gets to enjoy an aptly named "Street Burger."

There's an incredible attention to detail in the promotional videos, which even feature Street Fighter 6 (and Juri) characters in the background. While the main stars of the retro campaign are SFII reps, having the likes of Manon, Marisa, JP, Lily, and Jamie enjoying some Mickey D's.

Those looking to get a taste of the Street Burgers can start doing so on October 16. Sadly for people outside Japan, there doesn't seem to be any intention of bringing the themed food items to other regions.

Similarly, it doesn't appear that Street Fighter 6 will receive McDonald's-themed items for the player-created avatars, let alone character skins.

Still, a man can dream. If we got a K-pop themed skin for Juri, what's stopping Capcom from producing a Ronald McDonald Ken skin?
