Starfield will release its first DLC expansion, Shattered Space, a year after its official launch on September 30.
Bethesda recently shared an in-depth look at what players will experience once they start playing the DLC, with its story focusing heavily on House Va’ruun and its homeworld, Va’ruun’kai.
Lead creative producer Tim Lamb and the rest of the Starfield team shared how they created the hand-crafted world, its inhabitants, and the horrors players will face.
Starfield’s Shattered Space will take players to Va’ruun’kai and its many locations. Tim Lamb confirmed that once players set foot in Va’ruun’kai, Shattered Space’s story will not take them off-world.
Most of the story and quests in Shattered Space will happen within the planet, indicating how massive the DLC will be. While the new narrative experience will revolve around House Va’ruun and the politics between its minor houses, players will also experience different combat and traversal around the capital city of Dazra and the planet’s outskirts.

Gravitational anomalies and reality rifts will be present throughout the planet, and players will experience much more intense combat as the DLC aims to encourage close-quarter combat and adds melee enemies such as the Vortex Horror. Spacers, Crimson Fleet, and many other enemies will plague players as they try to uncover the secrets behind the mysterious faction.
House Va’ruun will see several minor houses vying for control since the fall of the capital. Due to a failed experiment, the capital city of Dazra will be in shambles, with many refugees seeking safety under the House Va’ruun.
Players will encounter several displaced NPCs for quests related to helping the capital and restoring House Va’ruun.
Shattered Space will be released on September 30 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. Players who purchased the Premium edition of the game will have access to the DLC once it launches, but players with the Standard Edition will have to buy the DLC from their preferred storefronts.
