Before you ready those pitchforks, this isn’t a jab at either of the game’s quality. Rather, this is a comparison to help you if you’re on the fence between picking up Silent Hill f or Silent Hill 2 Remake.
It's a great year to be a Silent Hill fan now that the franchise has rekindled its dying flames. With more Silent Hill titles to choose from, anyone can finally get a taste on what makes Konami’s psychological horror series great.
Silent Hill f vs. Silent Hill 2’s Story

Both Silent Hill games have the same kind of dark and psychological story. However, only Silent Hill 2 Remake takes place within the game’s eponymous Maine town. F takes place in Japan, but it still carries on that familiar Silent Hill touch with a creeping fog, heavy subject matter and a protagonist slowly going insane.
If you’re planning to pick up Silent Hill f, expect a standalone story. You don’t even need to play all the Silent Hill games to enjoy it. Hinako’s journey and self-discovery only exists in f, and watching her descent to madness is an interesting sight.

Silent Hill 2 Remake on the other hand, already has an established universe it’s building upon. There are familiar callbacks to the first game and easter eggs for the future of the series. It can still be enjoyed as a standalone journey, but you get more value out of it if you’ve played through the series’ evolution.

Silent Hill f vs. Silent Hill 2’s Gameplay

These two Silent Hill entries share a different kind of combat system. If you’re the kind who relishes the survival horror feel of Resident Evil, then James’ story in 2 might be your thing. His journey often involves shooting creepy nurses with an arsenal of guns, as well as facing off against the iconic Pyramid Head.

Silent Hill f has a much toned down combat. The focus is more on melee combat rather than going guns akimbo. Some would say it’s akin to a “Souls game.” Hinako’s weapons of choice are everyday items like Steel Pipes, Kitchen Knives and a good ol’ Baseball Bat. They’re not really powerful, but it does get the job done.
Of course, both games still have their signature puzzle encounters, as it won’t be a Silent Hill game without them.

Silent Hill f vs. Silent Hill 2’s Price

Now here’s the real kicker, both games are pricey as hell. That’s expected since the Silent Hill brand is a AAA product.
If you’re thinking of buying Silent Hill f for a cheaper price, you’re gonna have to wait months before its price drops down to 20 or 30 percent. But don’t let its price tag intimidate you. For $70, you get to experience a unique Silent Hill experience through a foreign lens.
Silent Hill 2 Remake, on the other hand, came out exactly a year ago. You often see it go on sale during holiday events and it could even go as low as 50% if you’re lucky. But here’s the other good news, the game is rumored to be part of PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers this October. So if you’re an existing PlayStation Plus Extra subscriber, you can always wait for a few more weeks before you can get it for free.

Overall, there is no “better” game between the two. Both games are great in their own way, but you get more value with Silent Hill 2 Remake right now as the game is slowly teasing a Born from a Wish DLC that would potentially add a few hours to its already horrifying story. It’s also rumored to come out on Nintendo Switch 2, so that’s a huge plus.
Silent Hill f is still new, but it has already sold over a million copies, making it another success for Konami. We’re likely going to get DLC down the line, but that’s going to take a year or so.
