Counter attacks in Silent Hill f.

Silent Hill f leans more into action than traditional horror. You won’t find firearms here, but you will get melee weapons like steel pipes, kitchen knives, and axes. These are Hinako’s main tools against the nightmare creatures roaming the town.

Contrary to what many believe, Silent Hill f’s combat is not “souls-like.” It’s still survival horror at its core, but with action elements powered by the Stamina and Sanity meters, easily one of the best additions the series has seen in its combat.

Much like Monster Hunter Wilds, the game encourages Focus mode, which allows you to counterattack enemies just before they strike. The creatures have clear attack tells, and if you time it right, you can land devastating counterattacks that deal heavy damage and stagger them.

Boss fights often demand precise dodging. Keep in mind that overusing dodge drains your stamina, leaving you unable to move. This is where Perfect Dodges shine. They are purely skill-based, and if executed correctly, they don’t consume stamina. In fact, they replenish your meter, trigger slow motion, and give you the perfect chance for a counterattack.

Pick Your Battles

Survival horror has always been about resource management, and Silent Hill f is no different. Weapons break once their durability runs out, so every fight should be carefully considered.

In Ebisugaoka and the nightmare world, you’ll often face choices like whether to take down a mannequin guarding valuable healing items, knowing the fight could cost you more resources than you gain. The decision is yours to make.

Sometimes it’s better to sprint past weaker enemies and save your axes and knives for the tougher monsters ahead. Don’t waste your best gear on the less aggressive ones.

Save All the Time

Save regularly!

Silent Hill f embraces death as part of the experience. The game offers generous checkpoints, but that doesn’t mean you should get complacent. Every time you find a Hokora, save your progress. That way, you won’t risk losing progress or items if the autosave misses something.

Hokoras serve as Silent Hill f’s version of Resident Evil’s typewriters. They not only save your progress but also replenish your Sanity meter and give Hinako a much-needed break from the horrors outside.

Explore Every Corner

Always explore!

Silent Hill f rewards exploration. Don’t ignore back alleys, dark corners, or suspicious rooms; you may find inventory upgrades or healing items. That said, the game will try to trick you later on with enemies waiting in places that seem too good to be true.

Use your map often and look for paths that aren’t obvious. Chances are you’ll uncover something valuable.

And that’s about it. Keep in mind that Silent Hill f is a horror game and it’s always going to be playing tricks on you with clever element placements and monsters jumping out from nowhere. Just remember these four tips and you’ll be breezing through the game!
