Shroud Being Targeted by Cheaters in ARC Raiders Showcases a Bigger Issue

Cheaters overran ARC Raiders during the winter break, and even now that Embark Studios is back in the office, streamers like Shroud perfectly exemplify that there's plenty of work to be done to get rid of them.

In one of his most recent Twitch streams, the FPS veteran jumped into Stella Montis, one of the hardest maps to survive and explore due to its claustrophobic maze-like nature and the fact that it has some very annoying ARCs roaming around.

If that wasn't enough to make it a nightmare, they instantly got streamsniped by cheaters. At first, no conclusive evidence was shown besides the enemy team having surprisingly good aim, but the real tell happened when Shroud got one of his nades shot as soon as he was about to throw it. Having consistently good aim isn't a crime, but to such a degree of precision in a very dimly-lit, chaotic environment? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

In any case, the stream snipers took down Shroud's teammates; however, the streamer himself was eliminated by a third party, leaving them with a fair warning about the squad of cheaters headed their way.

What's even more frustrating is that the cheaters were targeting other streamers, according to Shroud, as the exact users were seen in other lobbies stream sniping and perfectly hitting all their shots.

This really just showcases a bigger issue with ARC Raiders, and that's the somewhat rampant cheating that exists. Of course, a lot of it is mitigated by the nature of the game itself: it does feel at times that the community values helping each other out rather than constant fighting. That does get stale. In the off-chance you decide to be a bit more aggro, you could end up paired against a raider using unsavory (illegal) tactics to get the edge. It sucks, and it's far too common in games with PvP of any nature.

In this case, it was directly targeted at content creators, but what's really stopping them from curb-stomping regular players as well?
