  • Quick Answer: Shrek 2 Remastered requires at least an RTX 3060 Ti or RTX 4060 GPU and 16GB RAM on PC, launching on November 10, 2026.

The cult-classic Shrek 2 is getting a remaster, but your PC might not be able to handle it.

Aspyr Media is working on a brand new remaster for DreamWorks Shrek 2, which originally came out in 2004. It's a button-mashing co-op adventure with your favorite Shrek characters, such as Donkey, Fiona, and Shrek (obviously).

While a remaster obviously means better graphics, gamers were shocked to discover just how strong your PC has to be to play the game at its minimum system requirements. Spoiler alert: mid-range PCs will struggle. Let's discuss.

You'll Need One Strong PC to Play Shrek 2 Remastered

It's true - you'll need 16GB of RAM and at least an RTX 4060 or 3060 Ti card to play Shrek 2 Remastered in its minimum settings.

For a game that originally came out 22 years ago - and the fact that this is just a remaster and not a full-blown remake - the minimum system requirements are staggering. Even action-packed games, like Crimson Desert or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, don't ask for that much.

Currently, it's unknown why Shrek 2 Remastered is so demanding. Some believe that the system requirements probably aren't that strict, and that the requirements were likely compiled by marketers and not engineers.

Others believe that Aspyr probably vibecoded the game. Games that use AI-generated code are often buggy and are taxing on computers; that's why the system requirements are so hefty. However, Aspyr has not disclosed whether they used AI on the remaster.
