Should Gears of War: E-Day Go Straight to PS5 Like GoW: Reloaded?

Hell is freezing over, as Gears of War: Reloaded lands on PlayStation 5 systems this week. We’re also going to see Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series consoles this week, complete with some Halo DLC, showing that exclusives are basically dead. Considering how generous Xbox has been with bringing over exclusives, should Gears of War: E-Day be a day-one PS5 release?

Let’s face it, Microsoft has already done several multi-platform releases for games they have full ownership of. The Outer Worlds 2 is coming to PS5 right away, for example. At least, it looks like Xbox exclusives are mostly dead, as Indiana Jones on Switch 2 shows.

With that in mind, should Microsoft show some resistance by delaying Gears of War: E-Day’s release on other systems for a few months? Or should the company release it day one on PS5 like Gears of War: Reloaded? It’s time to explore the possibilities.

E-Day on Day One?

Knowing how recent Xbox exclusives are planned, we’re pretty sure Microsoft is already planning a PS5 release for Gears of War: E-Day. If anything, the day one release of GoW: Reloaded is likely a litmus test to see how this franchise does on Sony’s console. This is an interesting way to test that, and it gives PlayStation fans a chance to finally try this shooter out.

Fans on X have also uncovered some GoW: Reloaded trophies early, hinting that more entries from the series will be coming to PS5. There are plenty of games for Microsoft to bring over, but it would be fitting to port E-Day before the other entries. After all, it’s set in Marcus Fenix’s earlier days, so releasing that after Reloaded would make sense chronologically.

E-Delay?

If Microsoft does their tried-and-true tactic of delaying Gears of War: E-Day on other consoles, it wouldn’t be the worst strategy ever. Previous releases have shown that PlayStation owners are immediately interested in Xbox properties, so they’ll sell well regardless. Sea of Thieves sold pretty well on PlayStation years after being on Xbox, proving there’s interest in making audiences wait.

That would make the wait for E-Day slightly painful for fans, especially since Reloaded is going to get a lot of players thirsty for more of this gameplay. Granted, PlayStation fans have a decent amount of exclusives to enjoy before E-Day comes out, and most of them aren’t even on an Xbox. If anything, PS5 owners are pretty lucky.

We should also point out how Gears of War: E-Day doesn’t have a release date yet, so this is just mindless speculation. Still, GoW: Reloaded getting a day one PS5 release shouldn’t be overlooked. Needless to say, sales will probably decide when E-Day comes to PlayStation.
