- Quick Answer: Legendary game director Shinji Mikami is teasing a new collaboration with an unknown individual, sparking speculation about potential partners like Hideo Kojima.
Legendary game director Shinji Mikami is not retiring anytime soon, and his recent teaser has us incredibly excited. The man behind some iconic games like Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and The Evil Within has teased a collaboration with another creator, without exactly revealing who they are.
To say Mikami is one of the most influential game developers in history would be an understatement. Shaping Capcom to become the powerhouse it is today and helping create two beloved studios afterwards (PlatinumGames and Tango Gameworks), the 60-year-old dev has left an indelible mark on this industry.
Having left Tango in 2023, making it a successful studio that would further nurture the next generation of game developers (Microsoft would shut it down in early 2024 before Krafton swooped in to save it later that same year), Mikami founded his third studio: Unbound Games. Now, a small teaser via social media has the developer seemingly ready to showcase what the studio has been working on, and just as importantly, who the people involved in the project are.

The first post on X (formerly known as Twitter) from the official Unbound Games account has Mikami with an out-of-frame individual, stating: "Together, you and me, let's make games together that will change the world."
Now, plenty of people are speculating based on the fact that we can see a man wearing a pair of glasses, that this could be none other than Hideo Kojima. It wouldn't exactly be out of the realm of possibility.
That being said, developer ShiftUp, the makers of Stellar Blade, also posted a teaser around the same time the Unbound Games one popped up.
Could it be an April Fools' Day? Perhaps, but the tone of the teasers doesn't seem to suggest this is a lighthearted prank. And if it ends up being that, it'd be massively disappointing.
