Pokemon Legends Z-A, arguably, is the Pokemon title with the most fan service, either blatant or subtly, served to players especially to those who have been loyal to the series. It is so full of references, callbacks, and prayers answered that it should be called Pokemon Legends : Easter Eggs.
Why Is Pokemon Legends Z-A The Ultimate Fan Service Pokemon Title?
There's a lot, like a lot, of justification for this Pokemon game to deserve that title. There are countless easter eggs scattered around the map thru NPCs, design elements, and text speeches. There's also an abundance of memes breathed life that only Pokemon and meme fans are going to get.
And the historical callbacks that were subtly included and about to be included makes us appreciate how much Pokemon remembers what we have been asking for for a very long time. Are you a long-term Pokemon fanatic? Then keep reading because there's something for you in this piece.
Gorochu Coming Soon?
For those not familiar, Gorochu's designed was leaked back in 2019 and it was supposed to be the final evolution to the Pikachu line after Raichu and needless to say, the design was electrifying! Sadly, it was never released. Fans were so enamored by it's devilish and regal design that fans begged Game Freak for it to be released to the games officially.
Although not exactly the same, Game Freak might be granting wishes soon with the Mega Dimension DLC this December, 2025. One of the things you can acquire in buying the Pokemon Legends Z-A DLC are the Mega Stones for Raichu and one of them looks similar to Gorochu. So cheers to the fans who never gave up!
Memes Galore
Like clusters of Mega Shards, there are memes all around Pokemon Legends Z-A that only true Pokemon fans are going to whisper to themselves "I understood that reference" and let out a small chuckle. After Pokemon Sword and Shield, fans have created tons of memes for a Pokemon Gun title. It is funny and thanks to Legends Z-A giving 100% Form Zygarde a Mega Evolution that looks like a gun, that's officially a reality.
There's also Starmie being so tall, the Patrick (from the Spongebob cartoon) meme where he is extra tall and wears leg nets is so hard not to connect to the new Mega Evolution. And there's that one NPC who shouts "Look at all those Binnacle!" which is clearly based on the "Look at all those chickens!" meme.
Basically Pokemon Z!
Pokemon X and Y, although with controversial 3D design choices and questionable difficulty, were generally beloved by many Pokemon players. So naturally, fans were waiting for a third, enhanced version which hopefully gives more focus on the third legendary, Zygarde. Some argue that the Alolan games gave more love to Zygarde but it just isn't enough.
People waited and waited for a Pokemon Z but it never came but Pokemon Legends Z-A seems to be just that. It's a revisitation of Kalos, a direct sequel to X & Y, characters from the original titles, and more importantly, the heavy emphasis on Zygarde.
Mega Evolutions Are Back And We Love It!
Another thing that Pokemon fans begged Game Freak to return is Mega Evolution. Understandably so since this is the first time since Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu since we have Mega Evolved our favorite Pokemon.
Not only did Mega Evolution return, more Pokemon like Eelektross, Starmie, and Dragonite got their own and it's Mega epic! The story of Legends Z-A also has heavy themes revolving Mega Evolution. So yeah genuinely, thanks, Game Freak!
Lumiose City : The Easter Egg Capital of Kalos
And for die-hard Pokemon fans who played Pokemon Legends Z-A, Lumiose City is oozing with easter eggs from NPC dialogues, background design, and visual elements. Some are subtle while are so blatant that you don't have to be a Pokemon fan to get it. One of these easter eggs are the paintings on the Lumiose Museum obviously parodying real life paintings.
There's also the multiple mentions of Pokemon characters from different games like Leon, Raihan, Siebold, and many more! In fact, that same museum gave an entire floor just to showcase elements from one of the most revered Pokemon title, Pokemon Legends Arceus. From the Hisuian garments, to Poke Balls, all the way to Kamado's armor, everything substantial was there and if you played Pokemon Legends Arceus, makes you tear up.
Game Freak made the right decision making Pokemon Legends Z-A heavy in lore, easter eggs, and callbacks since it has been a while since we got a Pokemon that took us back to ancient nostalgia or answered our prayers. Legends Z-A may be set in a single city but it is undeniable that is is dense of content and catching these fan service inclusions made us love it even more.
