It looks like Perfect Dark is going to be another temporary Xbox exclusive if this next rumor is true. Microsoft has made it a point to bring their big games to other systems in order to sell more copies, at the cost of losing console exclusivity. While this isn’t exactly news to Xbox Series fans, seeing Microsoft give up on exclusives is still disappointing.
As spotted by X user geronimo_73_, developer The Initiative released a job listing looking for a Principal Graphics Engineer. On paper, this seems pretty basic, but the listing itself mentions multi-platform development numerous times. Considering how this team is working on the new Xbox FPS, this could be a sign that the game comes to PS5 and Switch 2.
Seeing Perfect Dark on the PS5 makes sense, since that system is on par with the Xbox Series X in terms of power. However, many fans are curious to see if it will be able to run on Nintendo’s Switch 2. Considering how the company is usually behind Sony and Microsoft graphics-wise, seeing a modern FPS ported to this hybrid console would be a major statement.
Details on this sci-fi shooter are pretty slim, outside of the excellent gameplay trailer that was released during last year’s Xbox Games Showcase. After years of not seeing anything from this franchise, many were awestruck at how gameplay-focused this video for the presentation was. If it’s really coming to other systems, expect the game to be Xbox exclusive for a few months first.
While this doesn’t bode too well for Xbox’s current identity crisis, more people playing Perfect Dark would be a good thing. Considering how popular the game used to be on Nintendo 64, bringing it to more systems could revive interest in the IP. Then again, if the game is really good, it might convince some fans to pick up an Xbox.
