The New Super Mario Bros. games have had a mixed reception from fans in recent years, with many blaming them for making Mario feel bland. Now that Super Mario Bros. Wonder has done some course correcting, fans are more forgiving of them and can see these titles as solid 2D platformers.

It looks like fans will be able to give these games a second chance, as insiders are claiming that a New Super Mario Bros. Collection is in the works.

A post from the Gaming Leaks subreddit claims that Nintendo could be working on a compilation of these games. This will supposedly include the first New Super Mario Bros. from the DS, New Super Mario Bros. 2 from the 3DS, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii from, well, the Wii.

Obviously, the Wii U game isn’t here because it’s already been ported to Switch and even has Switch 2 upgrades.

Like all leaks, fans should take this with a pinch of salt because it hasn’t been confirmed by Nintendo. There’s no denying that a compilation of these games would be fascinating, especially if they add any new content.

We imagine that these games will get a visual upgrade so they look more on par with New Super Mario Bros. U. Most fans already confuse the Wii and Wii U games in terms of visuals, but seeing that polish on the DS and 3DS would be appreciated. A Switch and Switch 2 release would also mean a more streamlined way to play these games, so removing any dual-screen support will get plenty of praise.

One does have to wonder if we “need” a New Super Mario Bros. collection, as fans have grown fond of Mario Bros. Wonder and Mario Odyssey. Then again, we can’t fault companies for wanting to preserve their older games, and more 2D Mario isn’t exactly a bad thing.
