Black Myth fans could get a brand-new DLC or game announcement at Gamescom. Developer Game Science filed a new trademark on August 19, with the name Black Myth: Zhongkui being registered.

According to the report, the trademark covers different categories. Namely, gaming, as well as items like bracelets or notebooks, it could be simply the studio preparing for a potential marketing blitz once the official announcement comes around.

Zhongkui is another Chinese deity that could become the protagonist of the next instalment in the series. He’s often depicted as a massive man with a big black beard who can command an army of demons to help him do his bidding.

Whether the potential announcement is a DLC or a brand-new game remains to be seen. We do know that Game Science will show something at Gamescom, so that alone should excite fans of Black Myth: Wukong. Game Science has stated that they see the Black Myth franchise as having the potential of becoming a long-standing anthology series featuring different aspects of Chinese mythology. The chances of this being a proper standalone game are quite high taking that context into consideration.

One thing fans should prepare themselves for is a potential lengthy development period. The first Black Myth game was originally announced back in 2020, taking four years to release. Hopefully, Game Science has a shorter development cycle this time around.
