The best part about anime, in my opinion, is the fighting sequences. I still cherish the YouTube days of watching unofficial AMV videos at 480p, so you can imagine my excitement when I finally got my hands on my favorite show’s fighting game – that child lived.

This same sentiment lives through me in the big old 2026, especially with this line-up of remakes and rematches that builds up tension even before the first punch is thrown. Whether it’s online, single-player, splitscreen, or role-playing, anime releases will always have a special place in my gamer heart, so without further ado, here are my most anticipated anime video games for this upcoming year!

1. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

The latest Dragon Quest release looks incredibly cute; it almost feels unnatural to manipulate. Its attention to detail and polished model textures truly make it seem like a movie rather than a video game in the best way possible.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined tells the story of a figherman’s son who travels through time to restore peace to Estard Island. This, as you might’ve guessed, is a remake of the 2000s original PlayStation title of the same name, now coming to all platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

This is one of Dragon Quest’s best works, becoming the best-selling PlayStation game in Japan and elevating the JRPG heavy-hitter to new heights way back when, so a playthrough on February 5 is a must, especially if you haven’t had the chance to try the franchise for yourself.

2. The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin

After a horrendous dip in quality in both writing and animation, Nanatsu No Taizai unsurprisingly rebirths as The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, the first console release in nearly eight years. Its predecessor, The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia, was a 3D open-arena fighter that received heavy criticism, much like its source material over the last couple of years.

Now, the game spins Prince Tristan, Meliodas and Elizabeth’s son, into an open-world Action RPG adventure, giving players the opportunity to explore the Britannia they fell in love with in early episodes and seasons.

With many comparisons to Genshin Impact and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it's most certainly an ambitious release that begs for at least a test run despite the series' previous shortcomings. Experience this fresh approach to the saga on January 28 on mobile, PC, and PlayStation 5. Sorry, Nintendo and Microsoft.

3. My Hero Academia: All's Justice

Leading my hype train is the latest and most likely last installment of the 3D arena fighting game trilogy, My Hero Academia: All’s Justice. The entry aims to wrap up the manga and anime main storyline, following up on the My Hero One’s Justice 1 and 2 titles from 2018 and 2020, respectively.

The six-year gap between releases allowed Byking to enhance immersion, animations, and roster size, promising over 80 playable characters from the entire MHA saga. With an original story by the My Hero writing team, a free roam mode, and canon dialogue and fight animations, All’s Justice is looking to deliver a decisive blow to its villainous past.

Bandai is dropping this quirky finale on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC on February 6, 2026. A must-cop for me, and hopefully for you, unless you haven’t watched the show, because, you know, spoilers. Regardless, here’s to a great anime video game year for you all, where entries Go Beyond for our favorite mangas and shows. Plus Ultra!

Honorable Mention: Invincible VS

I know, I'm sorry, bear with me. Despite not originating in Japan, the Invincible franchise has been inspired by classic American comics, much like many of our favorite manga and anime. I just couldn’t make this list without mentioning my hype for this upcoming anime-like title.

Invincible VS is a 3v3 tag fighting game based on the, you guessed it, Invincible comics and Amazon Prime series. Gory as expected, this release will feature fast and heavy combat, colossal super moves, and familiar faces with Viltrumites, Teen Team, and our main cast of characters like Cecil, Omniman, and Marky Mark himself.

Expect Invincible VS to hit the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC digital storefronts this upcoming April 30, with a Deluxe Edition available offering players four extra fighters and skin alternates on top of the Standard Edition’s base game. Which one are you going to get? Think, Mark, think!
