Marvel Tokon had a huge presence at Evo Japan ahead of its official release on August 6. Not only did attendees have the opportunity to play a build of the game that includes newer characters like Magik or Peni Parker, but they also revealed two brand-new characters: Hulk and Shuri as Black Panther.
Tokon is putting unique emphasis on its team synergies, slowly revealing each team's general theme. The first couple were the Amazing Guardians (Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker) and the Unbreakable X-Men (Storm, Danger, Wolverine, and Magik) For the one shown at Evo Japan, Arc Sys officially unveiled the Avengers, comprising Iron Man and Captain America, with Hulk and Black Panther completing the lineup.
Hulk looks to play exactly as you'd hope, especially if you're a Marvel vs Capcom player: big body, big damage. Shuri as Black Panther looks incredible, as she's not just your standard close-ranged brawler; she seems to have some decent range using a, what I can only assume, is a vibranium spear.
If you want another chance to play Tokon before its release, you can do so at Combo Breaker in Chicago. No news of a final online beta was revealed.
With Hulk and Black Panther revealed, 14 out of the 20 initial base roster Marvel Tokon characters have been announced. The leaders of the two final teams are Dr. Doom and Ghost Rider. Towards the end of the teaser Arc Sys seems to have slipped a small clue about which characters could join Doom's team, with the screen flickering and Spider-Man's face getting slashed. Could it be Green Goblin, Venom, Carnage? Time will tell.
