You unlock Batman in Chapter 1 after completing the Prologue. Batman uses the Batarang and the Batclaw, but you can unlock other gadgets as you progress to help with puzzle-solving. The Batarang is great for ranger threats, while the Batclaw can be used to pull enemies in.

Jim Gordon is also unlocked in Chapter 1, allowing you to use him as Batman's companion. Gordon uses a Foam Sprayer, which can be used to slow down enemies, and a Rebound Launcher, which sends projectiles everywhere.

After meeting Catwoman in Chapter 2, you'll unlock the mysterious character soon after and have her join Batman. She's a great character to have due to her cat-like abilities, such as climbing up walls. As well as using her Whip, Catwoman's special ability, Call Kitty, allows her to summon a small cat or kitten that can crawl through tight spaces, distract foes, and more.

Dick Grayson, aka Robin, joins the team midway through Chapter 3. His weapon, the Birdarang, is similar to Batman's Batarang. His Cable Launcher allows him to make tightropes to walk across, connect puzzles together, and more.

Batgirl becomes a playable character in Chapter 4. She uses a modified Batarang (aptly called the Hackarang) to hack electronic targets. She can also summon a drone to create a grapple point and scan for codes. This can even be upgraded into a turret.

You might be surprised to learn that you can use both Robin and Nightwing in the same team, but the latter is unlocked in Chapter 4. His gadgets are similar to Robin's, but are all electrocharged to stun enemies with projectiles and ropes.

Lastly, Talia is unlocked as a playable character in Chapter 5. With her Ninja Dash, Talia is able to disrupt enemies and can slip through gaps to cut distance in combat. Her Blowdart is used to send enemies into a daze, allowing you to kill them off quickly.
