  • Quick Answer: Nintendo is increasing the price of the Switch 2 console starting in September in the US, EU, and Canada, with Japan seeing an earlier hike.

It happened: the Nintendo Switch 2 is going up in price. Nintendo confirmed its latest hybrid console will retail for $499/€499.99/$679.99 starting this September in the United States, Europe, and Canada, respectively.

Japanese users have, naturally, also been affected; however, the price increase in Asia will take effect much quicker, on May 25. The Japanese-only version of the Switch 2 will now sell for ¥59,980, a ¥10,000 increase. Even original Switch models will receive a price bump, including the OLED, Lite, and OG Switch hardware.

Nintendo stated that these price hikes are a direct response to current market conditions. They're not the first to do so, with PlayStation 5 infamously getting two price increases already, with the most recent one happening this past April.

Just a couple of days ago, it was reported that investors were pressuring Nintendo to up the prices of the Switch 2, and it looks like the company had to act swiftly to appease them.
