20 quick-fire questions with Envy's enigmatic Rocket Leaguer and Elite Series finalist: EyeIgnite. Team Envy face Renault Vitality in the Rocket League Final on Saturday!
On Becoming an Esports Pro...
When did you go Pro?
I would say I only just went pro by making it to worlds. I didn’t feel like I solidified my place in the top-tier before that.
How old were you? What year was it?
21, 2018.
What was the first game you became a pro at?
Never been a pro in any other game. Played Smite at a very high level but never had a top team or anything.
What made you want to be a pro gamer?
Competitive gaming is just too exciting. I already loved gaming, but being able to earn money through competition is just incredible.
Who do you look up to?
Hector Rodriguez, CEO of Optic Gaming has been my idol for a long time.
Do your parents support your life choice?
My mom is extremely supportive of my choice of career.
What is your favorite game besides the one you play?
Pretty much any decent MMO or RPG game. Really enjoying Black Desert Online right now.
The Elite Series...
What do you think about the Elite Series?
I love the Elite Series. It’s a great platform for players trying to find their footing in esports. I can say I probably wouldn’t be where I am without the Elite Series.
Who was the toughest challenge so far?
Vitality, for sure. One of the best teams in the world.
Who is the player you would NOT like to face in the competition?
Fairy Peak. Dude is just ridiculous at the game, completely unpredictable, capable of pretty much anything mechanically, and a genius.
Who is the strongest player of your team?
We all have our strengths and weaknesses.
How would you compare this season with previous seasons?
I really like the new format. Though it’s a little strange because you less games than you did in season 1 and 2.
What does “team” means to you?
Team means a lot to me. It’s more than just playing a game. Team to me means comradery, friendship. It’s important to treat your team like family.
What do your teamates mean to you?
Same as above.
What would you do if you win this S3 ?
Go out and celebrate for one. I’d probably take a much needed holiday somewhere.
Rocket League...
Why did you choose RL?
Everything about RL is amazing. I was hooked from the moment I saw it. It’s just fortunate that it’s become a good esport, because I would’ve played for this long even if I wasn’t a pro.
What makes it interesting for you?
Everything. The physics feel incredible, the concept, the skill ceiling. It’s one of the most satisfying games to be truly good at, and it can still be one of the most enjoyable out there.
How is it playing together with your team?
It’s good. Our playstyles mesh pretty well. I’ve always been quite good at adapting to my teammates, but my current team make it really easy since they have pretty straight forward styles. On top of that they’re just lovely people.
Would you go pro in any other game?
Depends really. The only other game out right now I would want to play professionally would be CS:GO, but I’m just really really late to the game. Fortnite is fun but I really don’t see anything good about battle royale esports. No other games out there have interesting professional scenes in my opinion.
