Hypnos has been slumped in his chair since the very start of Hades 2. In the early access build, players could poke at his dreams but couldn’t truly wake him.
Now that the game is fully released, Melinoë can finally finish the “Soundest of Sleepers” prophecy by preparing three special incantations and going deeper into the god of sleep’s mind.
Here’s everything you need to do to wake him once and for all.
How Do You Start the Quest to Wake Hypnos?
You’ll need to talk to Hypnos several times first until he hints at the first incantation.

Each time you return to the Crossroads, make sure to talk to him and offer two bottles of Nectar.
At the same time, begin growing Poppy by digging up Poppy Seeds in Tartarus and planting them in the garden at the Crossroads.
After completing these steps and waiting for a run so your plants can grow, Melinoë will come up with the idea for a new Cauldron spell.
When the Cauldron is free (not being used by Hecate), you’ll find the End to Deepest Slumber incantation available.
Collect 1 Moly from Erebus, 2 Mandrake from seeds in the Rift of Thessaly on the Surface, and 3 Poppy from your planted seeds.
This ritual creates a Dream Vapor that you can offer to Hypnos. Doing so moves Melinoë into the first layer of his dream, a shadowy version of the House of Hades, but it will not wake him yet.
How Do You Unlock the Second Hypnos Ritual?
To unlock the second Hypnos ritual, you’ll first need to have access to the Surface route.

Once you can travel upward, start running the Surface path and visit the City of Ephyra whenever it appears.
While exploring the city, look for a room marked by an icon of two open hands with a speech bubble and enter it to meet the witch Medea.
She’s the key to progressing the quest. After you’ve spoken with her enough times, Medea will eventually teach Melinoë the recipe for a stronger Dream Vapor called End to Dearest Slumber.
If she doesn’t hand it over at first, keep visiting her on the Surface; she might give other tips before that one.
This second ritual requires 1 Moly, 2 Mandrake, and 3 Poppy, similar to the first incantation but with more Mandrake overall.
Once you’ve crafted it, gift the upgraded Dream Vapor to Hypnos to enter a softer, toy-filled layer of his subconscious. He still won’t wake up yet, but this step moves the quest forward.
How Do You Perform the Final Incantation for Hypnos?
Keep visiting Medea on later Surface trips, and after the Dearest stage, she will give the third and most powerful incantation, End to Dumbest Slumber.

To craft it, gather:
- 2 Poppy (plant more seeds if needed)
- 1 Shaderot (found in Tartarus)
- 1 Soot — this is the tricky part. Soot only appears once you’ve beaten the main story and rolled credits. After that, keep running the Underworld; a special NPC room can show up in the final area. Bring Nectar and hand it over to that NPC to earn Soot and a Keepsake.
Once you have all the ingredients, brew the final Dream Vapor and gift it to Hypnos. This unlocks the deepest dream as a blank, white, parchment-like space.
Walk to the top-right, find Hypnos, read the cheeky note telling Melinoë to “say wake up,” and have her speak the words.
The screen fades, and when you return to the Crossroads, Hypnos finally snaps awake with a hilarious scream and resumes his old post, greeting shades.
You’ll complete the Soundest of Sleepers prophecy and earn the related achievement.
