How to Get and Use Z-Sand in Hades 2

Hades 2

Hades 2

Z-Sand (Zodiac Sand) is one of the rarest items you’ll collect before finishing Hades 2. It isn’t something you’ll see for sale or pick up early; you have to farm it by fighting Chronos, the Titan of Time.

Each time you clear a full run through Erebus, Oceanus, the Mourning Fields, and Tartarus and bring down Chronos, you’re awarded one piece of Z-Sand.

Because several key late-game spells demand multiple pieces, the game naturally pushes you to beat this boss more than once instead of grinding in other ways.

Here’s how to stock up for those late-game spells.

How to Get Z-Sand

You earn Z-Sand by completing full Underworld runs and defeating Chronos, and each victory gives one piece.

No shop sells it, and no shortcut exists, so you have to farm the Underworld route repeatedly.

Chronos is a long two-phase fight with heavy AoE, time-slow effects, and adds, so you need a build that can last and keep dealing damage.

Crowd control and survivability boons help keep his adds under control, and conversations at the Crossroads (especially with Hecate) should never be skipped, as they often trigger the next step in the story.

The key reason to gather Z-Sand is to use it on late-game incantations, including Dissolution of Time, which takes five Z-Sand and Entropy.

The other key spell, Disintegration of Monstrosity, requires one Z-Sand, four V-Lens dropped by Typhon, and the special weapon Gigaros.

Keep in mind that Z-Sand limits other upgrades, including high-tier Arcana, so save your first five for Dissolution of Time before using any on extras.

How Many Runs Will You Need to Finish the Main Story?

To finish the main story in Hades 2, expect to complete around a dozen full clears in total.

Most players usually clear about seven runs in the Underworld and five on the Surface, but the order is flexible as the story progresses.

Start by defeating Chronos once to unlock the Dissolution of Time incantation. Push through the Underworld path five times in all, which will net you the Z-Sand you need to craft the spell.

After these clears, new story scenes and talks with Hecate and Zagreus will point you to the Surface path.

From here, the task is to prepare the Disintegration of Monstrosity incantation. You’ll need one piece of Z-Sand, four V-Lens (dropped by Typhon), and Gigaros, a weapon obtained after repeatedly defeating Chronos and inspecting Zagreus’ quarters and bed.

After finishing the Disintegration incantation, fight Typhon once more, and Melinoë will step in with Gigaros to kill him and drop Entropy.

Once you have Entropy, head back to the Crossroads and use it with your gathered Z-Sand to craft Dissolution of Time.

After that, one final trip through the Underworld to face Chronos will wrap up the main narrative and unlock the game’s ending.
