S-Scales, short for Serpent Scales, are one of the hardest reagents to come by in Hades 2.

They look like fossilized scales wrapped in thin vines or roots, standing out slightly from the surrounding stone but still easy to miss in cluttered arenas.
These are outcroppings, which are a type of reagent node. To harvest them, you must bring the Crescent Pick, the mining tool used for all ore-type resources.
Without it, you’ll have to walk right past potential Scales. Use the Pick on the outcropping to break it and gather Serpent Scales.
How Can You Increase Your Chances of Finding Serpent Scales?
You’re not guaranteed to find Serpent Scales every run; sometimes you’ll see several nodes, sometimes none at all.
To tip the odds in your favor, it’s best to bring Raki, the raven familiar, since he naturally boosts the number of ore nodes that appear in each room.
Feeding him more Witch’s Delight treats amplifies the effect and raises the odds of rare outcroppings.
If you haven’t recruited Raki yet, you can find him in the Fountain Rooms within Erebus and win him over by offering a Witch’s Delight.
You must have the Crescent Pick on you at the Summit, or the nodes there can’t be harvested.
Explore at a steady pace and search every corner, ridge, and side path to ensure you don't miss the blue-green outcroppings.
You can’t reliably farm Serpent Scales, though following these steps makes it much more likely you’ll pick up a few at the Summit.
What Are Serpent Scales Used For?
Serpent Scales have a small set of purposes so far, yet those few are valuable.
They are mainly needed for the Rage of the Elements incantation, which lets Melinoë awaken Olympian statues so the gods can help her in Surface battles.
Beyond this, the material is described in-game as being linked to magic involving “shedding” and “surfaces,” hinting that more upgrades, crafts, or spells will eventually require it as Hades 2 continues to expand.
Since the game is still in Early Access and new content is expected, it’s wise to collect and save any Serpent Scales you come across, as future updates will likely introduce additional recipes and tools that depend on them.
