- Quick Answer: GTA 6 safehouses act as story-unlocked, highly interactive temporary camps where players can groom characters, interact with visiting NPCs, and store weapons in vehicle trunks.
On October 7, IGN dropped its interview with Rockstar's Head of Development and Co-Studio Head Rob Nelson, which reveals GTA 6.
We were able to get a glimpse of the story missions and how there are multiple branches of escape, as well as a deeper look into what we can stumble upon in Vice City. However, one of the most important things we learned about is safehouses - specifically, what they are and how they work.
Curious? Here's everything you need to know.
What are Safehouses in GTA 6?
Safehouses are similar to Red Dead Redemption 2's Style Camps. They act as Jason and Lucia's temporary living spaces. Since Jason and Lucia are on the run, they don't have just one dedicated safehouse - these spaces are unlocked as you progress through the story. You won't be able to purchase a safehouse.

Besides being a rest place for Jason and Lucia, safehouses also act as living, breathing social spaces where NPCs can visit and hang out.
Though Jason and Lucia are both playable, they each have their own independent schedules when you're controlling one character. One character might not always be home when you visit the safehouse.
What Can You Do in GTA 6's Safehouses?
According to Rockstar, they've worked hard to make safehouses extremely interactive. You can interact with the interior, such as grabbing a drink from the fridge, turning the lights on and off, or adding items to the space.

You can also perform basic grooming tasks at these safehouses. For example, you can cut your hair or shave it all off. Jason can also shave his beard. However, you can only do simple things. If you want new hairstyles, you'll need to go to a hair salon or barber.
If you switch over to a character in a safehouse, you'll be able to observe what they do. In an IGN interview, it was revealed that you can switch over to Jason and you'll be able to even see him commando in the shower. When Jason and Lucia are together, they can spend time with each other.
Vehicles can also be kept in safehouses. These vehicles can serve as functional trunks where you can store weapons and clean clothes, similarly to how you can store items on your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2.
