Supergiant Games has dropped its first Hades 2 patch post-launch, adding some interesting changes to the game's controversial ending.
While I gave the game a glowing score in my review, praising it as an easy Game of the Year candidate, I can understand how fans (and myself to a degree) felt a little bit underwhelmed by the way Supergiant Games ultimately resolved the conflict with Chronos, the Titan of Time, the sequel's main antagonist.
I won't spoil anything, but suffice to say things felt a bit rushed towards the end. While Hades 2 won't receive a major change to its ending a la Mass Effect 3, Supergiant did confirm that the upcoming Patch 1 will include what they are describing as "True Ending Enhancements," which are "new events in the lead-up to the True Ending, and some after." The team also revised parts of the True Ending to make it more in line with the added content. As a result of this, more clears for the Underworld surface will be required.
If you've already completed the game, you can re-experience key events, including the newly added story beats, with a new cauldron incantation called Returning to a Real Possibility.
How To Play The New Hades 2 Ending?
To see the new Hades 2 True Ending content, you'll need to download Patch 1.
As of the time of writing, it's still a work-in-progress, meaning it's only available as a beta for Steam users, with Nintendo Switch players having to wait on the sidelines this time.
Follow these instructions to download Patch 1 and see the new changes for yourself:
- Right-click on Hades II in your Steam library and select Properties
- Select Betas, then select [preview]
- The game will update. Once ready, you should see Hades II [preview] in your library.
One more thing, I recommend you skim through the Hades 2 Patch 1 notes as they also include some balance changes to certain weapons, boons, and other story-related moments and characters.
