Rockstar has spent years getting GTA 6 ready, but there's one thing it can't guarantee: another game that keeps us coming back for 13 years. Los Santos set the bar ridiculously high, and Vice City has plenty to live up to.

GTA 6 is almost here, and after 13 years of Los Santos, we're finally getting ready to move to Vice City. That's exciting, obviously, but there's something a little strange about saying goodbye to GTA 5. We've spent so long stealing cars, getting into trouble and finding new ways to entertain ourselves in that game that leaving it behind won't be quite as easy as buying the sequel.

A World Worth Spending Time In

One of the best things about GTA 5 was being able to ignore whatever mission Rockstar wanted you to complete next. You could spend an entire evening driving around Los Santos, checking out neighborhoods or buying ridiculous modifications for a car you'd probably crash five minutes later. Nobody was telling you to hurry up and finish the story.

That freedom made the city entertaining even when you weren't doing anything particularly important. GTA 6 has an opportunity to build on the same idea, giving you plenty of reasons to explore Leonida without constantly following mission markers.

GTA 6 promises another enormous world packed with things to discover, but that appetite for choice isn't limited to video games. Sports betting has its own range of options, from live markets to different odds and promotions. Covers brings those choices together through a full list of online sportsbooks, comparing their ratings, betting features and available offers in one place.

The appeal of having options is easy to understand. Sometimes you want a specific activity, and sometimes you want to browse until something catches your attention. GTA 5 understood that distinction, and Rockstar has a tough act to follow.

Thirteen Years of Los Santos

GTA 5 launched in September 2013, introducing Michael, Franklin and Trevor to a generation of players who would spend the next 13 years returning to their city. The missions were entertaining, but the smaller experiences became just as memorable.

There was something satisfying about finding an expensive car parked in Rockford Hills, stealing it and taking it straight to Los Santos Customs. Even feeding Chop through the old iFruit companion app became part of the experience. Those little memories explain why saying goodbye to Los Santos is surprisingly difficult.

The commercial success is equally remarkable. GTA 5 appeared among America's 20 bestselling games for 13 consecutive years, from 2013 through 2025, and remains the bestselling premium game in US tracking history by both units and dollar sales.

That's quite a legacy to inherit.

Leonida Has Some Big Shoes to Fill

Rockstar is taking us back to Vice City, although GTA 6's setting extends across the fictional state of Leonida. The new adventure follows Jason and Lucia, whose criminal partnership lands them in serious trouble after a job goes wrong.

The official GTA 6 launch trailer gives us a proper introduction to this new world ahead of the November 19, 2026 release. Vice City's beaches and nightlife are back, but the surrounding locations promise a different experience from the streets of Los Santos.

The real challenge is giving Leonida its own identity. GTA 5 worked because Michael's family problems were entertaining, Trevor was completely unpredictable and Franklin wanted something better than his current circumstances. Their personalities gave the missions a reason to exist beyond earning money.

Jason and Lucia will need to establish that same connection with players, although their relationship offers Rockstar an interesting starting point. A story built around two people relying on each other could produce some memorable moments.

We'll know considerably more once we can actually play it.

Music Gives the City Its Personality

Remember cruising through Los Santos with the radio turned up, completely ignoring the destination on your map? GTA's music has always made those drives entertaining, and Leonida is already attracting attention through its celebrity connections.

Rapper Kodak Black has been identified in GTA 6's November 5 launch gallery, appearing in a nightclub scene alongside two women. His Florida background makes the connection particularly interesting, given Leonida's obvious inspiration.

His exact role remains unconfirmed, including whether he'll appear as himself or a fictional character. Rockstar has also announced a soundtrack album containing 34 original songs, suggesting music will remain a major part of the experience.

The Real Test Begins After Launch

Excitement certainly isn't a problem. Circana's October 2026 research found that 29% of American console and PC gamers intend to purchase GTA 6, the highest purchase-intent figure the company has ever recorded.

But getting everyone through the door is only the beginning. GTA 5 kept players entertained long after they had completed its story, and that's the achievement Rockstar now has to repeat.

On November 19, we'll finally get to explore Leonida. The interesting question is whether we'll still be talking about our favorite places there in another 13 years.
