- Quick Answer: God of War Laufey has received a three-month delay, now set for a May 20th, 2027 release.
Although most players are focused on the upcoming November releases, thanks to Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake and GTA 6, we have just received some big news for one of the most high-profile titles for 2027.
Santa Monica Studio has posted a letter on social media to announce a delay in God of War Laufey's release. The game is now scheduled to release on May 20, 2027, three months after its original release date on February 16, 2027.
As for the reason behind this delay, it appears the studio needs more time to polish the game and bring it to their expected standards. "We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential," the letter reads.
On top of announcing the delay, the letter claims that the studio "will be back to share more updates soon." This immediately tells us that players won't have to wait long to find out more details or see more gameplay.
Laufey, titled after the title Faye receives as Laufey the Just, is a new game in the God of War franchise that takes place simultaneously with the events of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok. However, instead of Kratos and Atreus, the game mostly follows Faye after she awakens in Everywhen following her death. She will embark on a new adventure in that realm to protect both her husband and son.
