Forget Blonde Blazer: Why Dispatch Season 2 Needs Diverse Character Romance Options

Dispatch

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but one of the reasons why I didn’t give Dispatch a perfect score is its lack of diverse romance options. Apart from the illusion of choice in its 8-episode run, the fact that I can’t take other members on the Z-Team on a date was a bummer.

I’ve seen players thirsting over Malevola or Prism, wishing they could get an exclusive tete-a-tete moment with their characters apart from the usual choice between Blonde Blazer and Invisigal.

In a previous piece, I talked about the five things I wanted to see in a possible Season 2 of Dispatch. Things like more meaningful choices and improved dispatching gameplay were part of it, but what I am looking forward to most is how AdHoc will expand its romance options.

Blonde Blazer and Mecha Man

Don’t get me wrong, Blonde Blazer and Invisigal are two great options, and their obvious imperfections make them standout characters. But just the two of them? Really? Robert Robertson’s character needs more flavor in his love life, and Dispatch’s selection of superhero oddities already has that. Listen, I don’t judge, but it would’ve been great to see romance options for characters like Golem. That would be interesting to see!

If Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 had players romancing a bear or the Mind Flayer itself, AdHoc can get away with weirder love interests as well.

One thing the Persona series got right is its expansive romance options. You can date almost everyone as long as it’s the opposite sex. Unfortunately, that limitation has also disappointed LGBTQ+ communities. AdHoc can take a page from Atlus’ games, making its romance options grow with succeeding runs. On the safer side, they could adopt Supergiant’s romance system in Hades 2, where the protagonist only needs to give gifts to their favorite characters and watch their relationship flourish.

A Season 2 is likely possible. There’s no denying that Dispatch is a resounding success for AdHoc. They even admitted that the company is bound to make more profits in three months' time, largely due to its success.

It might be a difficult task for AdHoc to implement, but now that the company is seeing record-breaking numbers, an increase in budget is a no-brainer for Season 2. This might be the time we’ll see AdHoc take on more complex choices with actual consequences, as well as a diverse lineup of romance options.

Flambae romance, anyone?

AdHoc still has to revel in its newfound success, so we will not likely see any Season 2 announcements anytime soon. But with The Game Awards coming very soon, who knows? We might be in for a treat.

If Season 2 is possible, then it would be interesting to see a new cast of characters and spicier romance options.
