EA Announce Competitive Gaming Division, Led By Peter Moore

Electronic Arts, the developers behind the iconic FIFA, Madden NFL and Battlefield franchises, have announced the creation of a new department within the organisation; the Competitive Gaming Division.

As stated in the official announcement, The Competitive Gaming Division (CGD) will be constructed around three pillars; Competition, Community and Entertainment and will enable global eSports competitions in EA’s leading franchises.

In addition to the details surrounding The Competitive Gaming Division EA also revealed Peter Moore as the Executive Vice President and Chief Competition Officer for Electronic Arts. Peter Moore is no stranger to gaming community, having previously held the positions of Corporate Vice-President of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business division and president of SEGA of America before joining EA in 2007.

The announcement also added the following about Peter Moore;

There is no one better in our industry to lead this new effort than Peter. He was an early pioneer in championing competitive gaming programs, such as the FIFA Interactive World Cup and the EA SPORTS Challenge Series, and Peter’s personal passions for the player experience, sports and competition, make him a tremendous leader for this new division. Peter’s team will partner with our development studios, marketers and publishing teams to bring this new platform to life.

Electronic Arts are now the second major developer to create a division solely dedicated to eSports, following Activision Blizzards footsteps earlier in the year. The formation of The Competitive Gaming Division once again reiterates the direction the gaming and eSports industry is taking and I’m excited to see what EA has in store for us in 2016.
