Subnautica 2 has a co-op limit of four people, meaning you and three friends can play in the same party together. It doesn't matter if you're playing on PC and your friends are on Xbox (or vice-versa), since the game supports crossplay.

How Multiplayer Mode Works in Subnautica 2

From the start screen, you can choose to either host a multiplayer session or join your friends' world.

To create your own world, select "Host Multiplayer." From here, you can send your friends the in-game Friend Code or invite them if they're already on your friends list. If you're joining a friend's world, you'll need to use their Code or accept their request to join.

In co-op worlds, Subnautica 2 features shared inventories, meaning the storage locker you and your friends build is accessible to anyone who accesses the world. There will be non-shared inventories in the future, but they won't be available at launch.
