- Quick Answer: Daft Punk reportedly declined a significant offer from Rockstar Games to reunite for Grand Theft Auto 6.
Not even Grand Theft Auto 6 was able to bring Daft Punk back from retirement, according to reports.
Social media account HasItLeaked, which has a decent track record of accurately sharing information about music albums and artists, said Rockstar pitched a “final comeback” moment to the French duo’s management with what was “essentially an unlimited budget.”
HasItLeaked’s full statement reads:
"Daft Punk's management (yes, still exist) were pitched ‘a final comeback’ of the duo for the GTAVI soundtrack with what was ‘essentially an unlimited budget’. Justice were Rockstar's second choice.”
The information came just a few days after Rockstar released the final GTA 6 launch trailer, which features a brand-new track made for the game with top music industry talent including Tame Impala, SZA, and the aforementioned Justice. The song is called "Flower in a Hurricane," and it’ll be one of dozens of licensed tracks available in the game across its many radio stations, including one hosted by Bad Bunny.

Beyond the licensed tracks, Justice will serve as composer for original music that will likely play in key story moments. If you tuned in to the Netflix gameplay reveal, you’ve already heard a taste of what Rockstar has in store for us with its retro and synthwave-inspired beats.
Daft Punk would’ve been the cherry on top of what is looking like the biggest release in the history of gaming—and perhaps of entertainment media as a whole. It won’t be long before players get their hands on it, as GTA 6 is set to release on November 19 for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
