Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is getting all the love it deserves after being nominated for Studio of the Year at 2025’s Golden Joystick Awards. Fans are ecstatic about the announcement, as this year has been one of the best years in gaming when it comes to indie titles becoming major successes as opposed to triple A giants.
But that’s not all, Sandfall Interactive isn’t just getting a Studio of the Year nomination, it’s also nominated for six other categories, including Best Soundtrack, Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, Best Lead Performer (Jennifer English as Maelle), and Best Supporting Performer (Ben Starr as Verso).
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Best Storytelling category will also be competing against other major titles like Konami’s Silent Hill f and Don’t Nod’s Lost Records: Bloom and Rage. As for Studio of the Year, Sandfall Interactive will go toe to toe against Team Cherry (Hollow Knight: Silksong), Slocap (Rematch), Bloober Team (Chronos: A New Dawn), Rebellion Developments (Atomfall), and Aggro Crab & Landfall (Peak).

Jennifer English as Maelle will also be competing with Ghost of Yotei’s Erika Ishii, The Alters’ Alex Jordan, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II’s Tom McKay, Indiana Jones’ Troy Baker, and South of Midnight’s Adriyan Rae. As for Ben Starr, he’s poised to take the crown from contenders like Troy Baker’s Higgs (Death Stranding 2: On the Beach) and Logan Cunningham’s Hades.
These nominations were also announced days after Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s official soundtrack was submitted for consideration in the 2026 Grammys. This includes the game’s official score composed by Lorien Testard for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media. The song “Lumiere” is also being sent for consideration for Best Song Written for Visual Media. If the Grammy considers Sandfall’s submission, it will join other previous nominees like God of War’s official soundtrack, composed by Bear McCreary, and Persona 5’s 8-bit cover Battle Theme.

The year isn’t even over yet, and there are possibly more nominations coming for Sandfall Interactive’s magnum opus. However, the competition is fierce for this year in gaming as titles like Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight: Silksong and Supergiant’s Hades 2 are already making a big name for the indie gaming industry.
