Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has a wealth of bosses that can be a bit daunting. Early on, perhaps the first one you’ll find yourself having difficulty with is Medusa, one of the beasts you need to slay to open a massive door that will help you progress in your journey to save Paris.

While the first two bosses are relatively straightforward, Medusa starts making you think more about mechanics and how to break down her moveset to deal as much damage as possible.

Fret not; if you’re having difficulty, I’ve got you covered with some tips to beat Medusa in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse.

How to Beat Medusa in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

Medusa can use plenty of abilities that seem inescapable or that can deal a huge chunk of damage in a matter of seconds. As you’d expect, one of them even petrifies you.

So how do you beat her? Here are my main tips for this boss fight:

Turn Your Back on the Petrifying Beam

A massive tip to kick us off: you can simply turn your back on Medusa’s petrifying beam to avoid taking damage and quickly jump back on the offensive.

Muscle memory will tell you to avoid it completely by dropping down to the platform below, but that will make you lose precious seconds and potentially hurt you if Medusa’s tail is about to strike the platform you’re standing on.

When you see her charge the beam, simply turn around, and you won’t receive any damage or be petrified.

Once She Gets Stunned, Don’t Drop Down

The rhythm of the fight will lead you to believe that the most efficient way to avoid her melee attacks is by dropping to the platform below and then climbing back up immediately. That is true, except when she’s stunned.

If you see her reel from an impact, use your whip to zip across the platform to the other side of the stage, as she’ll start hitting the lower platforms with her tail.

This is also the section where rocks start falling from the ceiling, leading up to a big boulder that you need to use as cover to avoid Medusa’s all-out projectile attack, so keep that in mind as well.

You Can Parry Basically Every Attack

At this point in the game, you’ll have access to the Holy Light ability, which doubles as a parry. Note that you can absolutely try to parry every single attack Medusa throws at you; it’s just extremely difficult.

It can get you out of a tight spot, though, so try to start building some muscle memory with it.
