Destiny Rising on Steam Deck

Destiny: Rising is the most interesting gacha game released in recent memory, as it tries to make this live-service experience fit on the small screen. Fans seem to be having a good time with this game, even if they have to accept that it gets better when money’s involved, and this mobile experience even does some things better than the main games.

At the time of writing, Rising is only available as a mobile experience on iOS and Android. However, the developers do encourage players to try this game out on computers via mobile emulators. Bluestacks and Waydroid have made some pretty good progress in recent years, so this should be easy enough.

But can Destiny: Rising run on Valve’s Steam Deck? On paper, this should be the ideal experience, since a handheld PC would be able to make this game look good and play even better via built-in controls. Is this actually the case, though?

Can Destiny: Rising Run on the Steam Deck?

There is currently no official way to make Rising run on Valve’s Steam Deck, as this game is only available on iOS and Android devices.

Unfortunately, even Destiny 2 isn’t playable on this powerful piece of hardware, due to the type of anti-cheat Linux supports. Fans have only been able to play Bungie’s live-service shooter on Deck by installing Windows on the system, but that has its own risks. The sad truth is, Destiny fans are better off with other PC handhelds, as Valve and Linux can’t support these games right now.

Can Destiny: Rising be Emulated on the Steam Deck?

While Waydroid can be installed on Valve’s Steam Deck, the experiences of various users have said that Rising is currently unplayable on this machine.

Fans on Reddit have pointed out that they can download Destiny: Rising with Waydroid on Deck, but the game crashes after a few seconds. It’s an experience echoed by many players, proving that the gacha title just isn’t playable on this handheld, at least not yet. Future updates could end up making the shooter work on this hardware, but they haven’t been confirmed or patched in yet.

Will Destiny: Rising Ever be Playable on Steam Deck?

It’s hard to say if Rising will ever be playable on Valve’s portable gaming machine. Since the devs encourage mobile emulation, future updates could make it more compatible with Waydroid. Until that happens, we’ll have to wait and see.

Destiny: Rising

Considering the lack of playable Destiny games on this system, the chances of playing Rising here are pretty low. Even multiplayer titles like Apex Legends have dropped support for this device, simply due to Linux’s anti-cheat service. There’s still a chance for Destiny: Rising, it’s just going to take some time before we get there.
