- Quick Answer: This article discusses the possibility of Bungie developing a new Star Wars: Battlefront game, based on industry rumors.
UPDATE (21/10/2026): Variety is now reporting that DICE and Respawn have been chosen by EA to tackle the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 3. The report comes as Electronic Arts has decided to shut down legendary studio BioWare and cancelling the upcoming return of Mass Effect.
Original story:
Disney is looking to revive Star Wars: Battlefront by recruiting one of the best developers they could hope to land for the gig: Bungie.
Electronic Gaming Monthly reports that Lucasfilm and Disney are eyeing either keeping their relationship with EA and DICE on the Battlefield franchise or pivoting to Bungie, which is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The magazine, via Quartermann’s gossip column, states:
“The suits at Lucasfilm have been aggressively deploying probe droids for a development partner to take on the task of creating a follow-up. So far, no one has fully stepped up, but yours truly is hearing two major game studios are circling the project like a couple of snowspeeders led by the completely unsurprising EA DICE, who we can hope learned from their loot box lesson. If the Force is not entrusted to DICE, it could land at none other than Halo, Destiny, and Marathon developer Bungie.”
Bungie has not had the best of times recently, with Marathon failing to maintain a steady player base despite its quality. While that happens, Bungie is now looking to revive Destiny after briefly keeping it on life support, and will likely have their hands full for the foreseeable future.

DICE launched Battlefield 6 in 2025 to positive reviews and even better commercial success, selling over 7 million copies in less than a week. Knowing they have a previous working relationship with Disney would probably give them a leg up over Bungie. That said, knowing the disastrous launch of Battlefront II was one of the main catalysts for the regulation of loot boxes worldwide, Disney may have second thoughts.
Now, that's a solid, interesting rumor, but a second source popped up via social media, none other than Bulkhead CEO, Joe Brammer. The head of the studio that recently launched Wardogs, commented via X (formerly known as Twitter):
"DICE and from what I’ve heard Respawn are working on Battlefront 3. Not sure what that means for Battlefield."
Before you get all giddy, this is still a very fresh rumor, albeit from a reliable source. Even then, since EA would still be in the planning phase, don’t expect things to move quickly. In other words: we won’t be seeing the product of a potential collaboration in quite some time.
